About PA6 – Carbon Fibre

Our PA6 – Carbon Fibre filament is essentially a blend of standard PA6 (Nylon) infused with carbon fibres, designed to improve the material’s strength, rigidity, and reduce weight, making it ideal for functional, high-performance parts. Due to the abrasive nature of the carbon fibres, we recommend printing with a hardened nozzle to prevent wear.

PA6 is a popular engineering-grade material known for its toughness and high mechanical strength. When combined with carbon fibres, it gains additional stiffness, while maintaining the excellent impact resistance typical of Nylon. Compared to unmodified PA6, the carbon fibre variant has reduced warping and improved dimensional stability, making it easier to print larger, more precise parts. It also boasts higher thermal resistance, allowing parts to retain their mechanical properties in environments up to 150°C.

PA6 – Carbon Fibre is suitable for printing durable parts that require strength and heat resistance, such as automotive components, mechanical tools, and high-stress applications. Despite the reduced warping, some shrinkage can still occur, especially with larger prints. This can be mitigated by using an enclosure and ensuring the heat bed is adequately heated, typically set between 90°C to 110°C. Using a temperature-controlled environment will also help in avoiding drafts that can negatively impact print quality.

Print Sheet Preparation:

For optimal results when printing with PA6 – Carbon Fibre, we recommend using the textured PEI spring steel sheet. The adhesion balance is ideal for this material, as PA6 can bond strongly to smooth surfaces, making print removal challenging. Simply clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol before starting the print and consider applying a thin layer of glue stick or a specialized adhesion agent to prevent the prints from sticking too firmly. Once the print cools down, it will easily detach from the bed.

Given the high temperatures and the properties of the material, ensure that the printing space is well-ventilated, but avoid creating drafts around the print, as sudden temperature changes can still cause warping or layer separation.
